Hello everyone, and thank you for joining me here on ‘Wheelchair Detective.’ As many of you know, this blog is dedicated to uncovering the truth behind crimes against vulnerable individuals, with a particular focus on disability awareness. It’s with a heavy heart that I bring you today’s case, one I only became aware of this past Saturday, April 26th, 2025, thanks to a friend who sent me a news article, from TooFab. I’m grateful to this friend for recognizing the importance of sharing Alivia Jordan’s story. It perfectly encapsulates why I felt compelled to start this blog: to shine a light on the darkness of abuse and neglect, especially when it targets those who depend on others for their very survival.
Who Was Alivia Jordan?
Alivia Jordan was a 7-year-old little girl with a bright smile. Family members lovingly remembered her as a “very happy and precious little girl with a huge smile that would light up the room”. Despite her challenges, she was known for her cheerful greeting of “Hey, y’all”. She was also born with autism spectrum disorder, seizures, and cerebral palsy. She deserved to live a full life, despite her challenges. You will soon find out the pathetic excuse as to why Alivia’s mother,Alondra Hobbs, did not think her daughter was deserving of a full life.
She Had No Intention in Returning For Alivia
The weight of Alondra Hobbs’s betrayal is staggering. Imagine the terror and confusion Alivia must have felt as she was placed in that stroller, wheeled into the confines of a closet, and then abandoned. Hobbs, her own mother, the one person who should have been her protector, turned her back and walked away, admitting she had “no intention of returning“. Alivia, a child with autism, cerebral palsy, and seizures, was left to die alone. Hobbs’s pathetic excuse – that Alivia was “too much” for her – is a slap in the face to every person who lives with a disability. It’s a cruel dismissal of Alivia’s inherent worth and a stark reminder of how vulnerable people can be at the hands of those who should love them most.
The Day The Clock of Justice Began for Alivia
The day the clock of justice began for Alivia finally arrived on June 25, 2023. It was on this grim day that an anonymous individual made a 911 call to report the presence of a deceased child inside a closet at the Hidden Valley Apartments complex. A neighbor provided a more detailed account, stating that he noticed the door to the specific apartment unit standing wide open. As he approached, he was met with a foul odor. Upon entering the vacant apartment, the neighbor’s investigation led him to the bedroom, where he found the closet door ajar and tragically saw what appeared to be a small human arm. Inside, he discovered Alivia Jordan’s body in a state described as “mummified,” still strapped into her stroller.
DeKalb County Police officers responded to the scene and began their investigation. Through their investigation, they determined that Alivia’s mother, Alondra Hobbs, had resided in the apartment but had moved out months prior, leaving the child behind. Alondra Hobbs was located and arrested shortly after the discovery of her daughter’s remains. Court records indicate that the formal date of her arrest processing was June 29, 2023.
Falsehoods and Fabrications: Alondria’s Web of Lies
As if leaving Alivia to die in a closet wasn’t horrific enough, Alondra Hobbs added another layer of cruelty: calculated deception. For months, while Alivia’s body remained undiscovered, Hobbs told family members that Alivia was “staying with her paternal grandmother in Albany, Georgia”. This lie, this attempt to erase Alivia as if she were simply on a short trip, is a particularly sickening aspect of this case.
Full Accountability: The Non-Negotiated Plea
While I personally believe Alondra Hobbs deserves a punishment far harsher than what the legal system allows, she was ultimately held accountable for her horrific actions. Hobbs entered a non-negotiated guilty plea to all five felony counts against her, thus avoiding a trial. These charges included Malice Murder, two counts of Felony Murder, and two counts of Cruelty to Children in the First Degree. On April 23, 2025, she was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This plea signifies that Hobbs admitted guilt to the charges exactly as indicted, without any agreement from the prosecution to reduce the charges or lessen her sentence. In my opinion, this was the bare minimum for the atrocities she committed.
There is Hope: Resources for Parents and Caregivers
The tragic circumstances of Alivia Jordan’s death serve as a stark reminder that help and support must be available for families facing immense challenges. While Alondra Hobbs made the unconscionable choice to abandon her daughter, the prosecution emphasized that there is an alternative. DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston stressed that abandoning a child is never the right choice and directed struggling parents to FindHelpGA.org, a resource portal connecting individuals with essential support services. This message of hope underscores that even in the darkest of situations, there are avenues for assistance and that tragedies like this can be prevented. Help is available, and you as a parent or caregiver are not alone.
Wheelchair Detective’s Final Thoughts & call to action
I’m struggling to find the right words to conclude this. This case has left me sick to my stomach, and I won’t pretend to have easy answers. I’m not going to ask the trite question of “Where do we go from here?” Instead, I’ll focus on ensuring that resources are readily available to prevent future tragedies. It’s unconscionable to me that a mother could treat her child with such cruelty and disregard. Alondra Hobbs had options; she had alternatives: Dropping Alivia off at a “Safe Haven” location (Fire department, hospital, police station , etc) . Family, support services, Child Protective Services – all were better choices than the path she chose. Her excuse of being overwhelmed is a slap in the face to every caregiver who faces challenges with grace and love. While I acknowledge that Hobbs is serving a life sentence, it’s hard to reconcile that with the image of Alivia, suffering and alone. The punishment doesn’t seem to fit the crime. In a perfect world, perhaps Hobbs would face the same isolation and deprivation she inflicted on her daughter. But since we don’t live in a perfect world, we must focus on making it better.
